The following is a press release issued by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure on the cost of Angling Permits for 2007 season

PUBLIC ANGLING ESTATE PERMITS FOR 2007

Maria Eagle MP, the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure has announced the cost of angling permits for the 2007 season.

Making the announcement, the Minister said:  “Government remains committed to increasing participation in angling and I can confirm that for the fourth consecutive angling season there will be no increase in the cost of concessionary permits for senior citizens, juveniles and for disabled anglers.

“Angling plays an important role in tourism and rural regeneration and I have also decided that, in order to attract more visitors and tourists, there is to be no increase in the cost of three day and 14-day game and coarse angling permits.  Other charges have been increased in line with inflation.”

The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure continues to publish its Angling Guide in two parts to provide separate information on the Game and Coarse Fisheries in the Public Angling Estate.  A copy of the appropriate Guide will be available free of charge to everyone who buys a DCAL permit and may be obtained either through our authorised distributors or directly from the Department.

The Department’s angling website at www.dcal-fishingni.gov.uk has proved very popular and many anglers, including visitors and tourists, now use it to purchase DCAL angling permits and River Bush Day Tickets on-line. It is also a useful source to help keep anglers abreast of developments and issues regarding the Public Angling Estate.

Highlighting the social benefits of angling the Minister said: “Angling provides health and social benefits and also enhances the quality of life, both for anglers and for rural communities. Like my predecessors I want to encourage more participation in angling, particularly amongst young people, the disabled and the over 60’s.  By holding the cost of these categories of permits I am confident that we can achieve this objective.”
