Countryside Alliance Ireland (CAI) is delighted to support the all-new Irish National Country Fair which is being staged at Ballinlough Castle in County Westmeath over the weekend of 18 & 19 July.  The CAI's decision to become involved with this event is a significant move for the organisation in the Irish Republic where its membership is rapidly growing.

Lyall Plant, Chief Executive said "CAI appreciates the need for a forum in the Republic of Ireland where its members can meet, enjoy a day out with friends and family and participate in the many events and competitions being offered.  The National Country Fair is such a forum. We in CAI are delighted to be part of it and have nominated it as our main membership event in the Republic of Ireland this year"

Located in the Irish Midlands, Ballinlough Castle is a 500 acre private estate that has been in the ownership of the Nugent Family for over 400 years. It is located on the N52, close to the village of Clonmellon and is just an hour's drive from Dublin and from the border with Northern Ireland.Over 150 exhibitors from the UK and Ireland have already booked space, making this event one of the largest in the country in its first year. The competitions include the all Ireland International Gundog Challenge, retriever and spaniel working tests with a prize fund of 2,000 Euro, four sporting clay pigeon layouts (with a top of the range Beretta shotgun valued at 2,500 Euro as first prize), angling, rifle and air rifle shooting and archery competitions. For terrier and long dog enthusiasts, Sunday 19 July should not be missed, as the terrier and lurcher racing and showing events will be staged then. With a prize fund of circa ?1,000 a big entry is anticipated. A special class for Irish Deerhounds is being organised by the Irish Deerhound Society.

With a main arena packed with attractions such as medieval jousting, birds of prey, gundog handling, dog & duck displays, horses and hounds, carriage driving and live music, there is something for everyone at the National Country Fair.
